根据语言学家的研究，学习外语最好是从八、九岁开始。现代英语教学的改革，已经使得我国的英语启蒙教育从初中提前到了小学三年级。然而，目前小学阶段的英语教学只能属于“印象派”即让学生尽早的接触英语，对英语产生一点感觉。真正的英语学习还是从初一开始。听力是英语学习比较重要的一部分，也是过去被忽视的一部分。在当前形势下，从初一开始，我们就得有意识的练习和提高听力能力，为中考和高考做准备。
很多同学都是在进入初三后才意识到听力的重要，这一错误已让他们损失了不少宝贵的时间。殊不知听力是个月积日累的过程，初三紧张的练习对一些简单的，有规律可寻的题型还是有效果的，但是对于拉开档次，决定你是上普通还是重点学校的那部分题，就丝毫没有作用了。所以，我们首先要树立一个好的听力学习态度：从初一开始我们就要注重听力的学习。这是目前很多初中生没做到的，在这方面，外国语学校或接受过英语培训的学生做得好些。
